The law of fashion and its intellectual property

The conference was held as part of the program of activities of the exhibition Ser Oscar de la Renta.

Argentine jurist Diana Muller, president of the Entertainment Law Committee of the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), spoke about law and intellectual property within the fashion industry in the activities room of the León Center.

During the conference, Muller dedicated a segment to speak on the subject of designer names, clarifying that "designer names, once they gain recognition in the market, even if they are personal names, they can be protected".

After speaking about the intellectual property infringements that have been committed in the fashion world, the speaker urged those present to protect themselves and their brands. "It is essential before using a trademark, do a trace and determine if there is another registered trademark with the name," said Muller.

The conference ended with a question and answer session, when the lawyer clarified the doubts of those present about the application of this information.

This activity was carried out thanks to coordination with the Dominican Association of Intellectual Property (ADOPI). The exhibition on the life and work of the Dominican designer will be open to the public until April 19, 2020 at the facilities of the Centro León, in Santiago.
