Rosa Idalia García opens exhibition: Voices from the horizon

The exhibition reveals the expertise of the artist from Santiago, in a selection that covers 50 years of artistic work.

The pictorial universe of the artist Rosa Idalia García is shown to the public at the exhibition Rosa Idalia García: Voices from the horizon, inaugurated by the León Center in its Temporary Exhibition Hall in Santiago.

"The Leon Center and the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation feel very honored to celebrate in this city of Santiago, for the country and for the world, the rigorous commitment of a woman with an undeniably authentic artistic spirit," said María Amalia León de Jorge , director of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation and León Center, during the opening ceremony of the temporary exhibition.

"We are at a party not to be enjoyed equally, but they will already get the start of a critical, active life ...", said García about the exhibition, besides thanking the León Center for organizing the exhibition and the collectors of his works present in the activity.

Exposure Rosa Idalia García: Voices from the horizon will be open to the public until the 9 of September of 2018 and has the auspices of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation y Dominican National Brewery.

Voices from the horizon

In the selection of 68 works that cover five decades of constant artistic creation (most of them made in oil on canvas), Rosa Idalia reveals her own transformation of the painting trade: inquiries into the personal and the local to convey broad and complex experiences from the peculiarity of his creative personality.

The exhibition is organized in seven areas (Plural, Atavics, Singular, The horizon, Polyphony, Resonance y Accents) that show the lines of work of García, from the monochrome and the human groups or to marked thematic accents and the use of color.

About Rosa Idalia García

Master of the Dominican visual arts and teacher of generations of artists, Rosa Idalia García was born in 1944 in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. She is a visual artist, cultural manager, professor of visual arts and founder of the Casa de Arte institution in the city of Santiago. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Santiago and at the Yoryi Morel Workshop.

Since 1968 has participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions. Between them, New Image: twelve avant-garde artists at the Madre y Maestra Catholic University, Santiago; First individual retrospective exhibition at the Rosa María Art Gallery, Santo Domingo; Woman and Dominican Art Today in House of Bastidas, Santo Domingo; Rosa Idalia García: lady of art at Casa de Arte, Santiago.

It was awarded in the IV y V Eduardo León Jimenes Art Contest in the category of Painting with works Bull's-eye y Fern, respectively. His works are part of the collections of the Museum of Modern Art of Santo Domingo, the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic and the Leon Center.

Throughout his career he has directed various cultural institutions, among which are the Center of Culture of Santiago, as well as his art gallery, library and art gallery Yoryi Morel, the Department of Plastic Arts of the Institute of Culture and Art of Santiago (ICA), the Historical Museum of Santiago and Casa de Arte.
