Mission, vision and objetives

Eduardo León Jimenes Cultural Center (León Center) is located in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. It was devised by the Leon Asensio brothers to honor the memory of their parents while giving the country an institution for its educational and cultural development. Its doors were opened in October 2003 with various spaces used for public and private activities, both inside and around the main building. It has four exhibition halls, multipurpose room, classroom, educational workshop room, auditorium, media library, cafeteria, shop, Caribbean Patio and gardens, all of which comply with international standards established by ICOM / UNESCO for their design and operation.

Centro León is home to an eco-museum that seeks to articulate educational, socio-cultural, investigative, informational and exhibition programs around Dominicanity within its Caribbean context. Its projects and activities make art, culture and the environment into essential components of community development, through the strengthening of values of creativity, identity and habitability.

Mission

Leon Center develops creativity through research, protection, exhibition and dissemination of Dominican artistic and cultural achievements and of everything that contributes to forming a society more sensitive to transcendent values, more proud of itself and capable of actively participating in improving the quality of life of the nation within the Caribbean context.

Vision
Leon Center thrives to become one of the most complete cultural centers in the Caribbean and Latin America in documentation and creation of offers and cultural products. Centro León seeks to encourage the increase of interest, audiences and specialized institutions in the cultural field, by providing the cultural recognition of communities, cultural actors, traditions and vanguards, centered in the quality and diversity of artistic trends, conceptions and styles, through the generation of learning dynamics, accessibility, participation and cultural production based on information and communication technologies.

Objectives
To propitiate diverse spaces and reflection-action modes on three thematic axes: the identities, the creativity and the habitat, within their respective Dominican and Caribbean contexts.

To organize, investigate and expose collections and artistic and anthropological objects that converge in a plural representation of the Dominican and Caribbean identities.

To value the role of art, particularly the visual arts, in the formation of cultural identities, emphasizing the relationship and the expressive role they articulate in culture.

To motivate in the participant questions and answers from the expositions, the cultural contexts and the possibilities of the art of recreating and questioning the culture.

To constitute and offer a public space to ease the exchange between communities, groups, artists and institutions for the use, enjoyment and production of cultural and artistic projects and activities, as well as the reflection-action on habitability.

Promote actions, strategies and collaboration programs with public and private institutions that have programs in various regional, national and international communities, to manage initiatives to be carried out in different locations and contexts.

Foundation E. León Jimenes

The Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation is a private non-profit institution created by the Leon Asensio brothers and Leon Jimenes Group to contribute to the social and cultural development of the Dominican nation.

The Foundation was established on November 29, 1995 with the purpose of managing socially relevant, participatory and self-managed projects, with a vocation of exchange and collaboration between national and international groups and institutions. It is part of Leon Jimenes Group and a key unit in the development of its corporate social responsibility programs.

The origins of Grupo León Jimenes date from October 3, 1903, when Eduardo León Jimenes founded the first company of the Group, La Aurora, in 50,000 square meters of cultivated land of tobacco, in the community of Don Pedro, Guazumal, province of Santiago . After that modest beginning, this company was transformed into a diversified business group, at the forefront in the industrial and commercial field of the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean.
