Photographic project carried out by the Pictoria Newhouse collective that integrates Victoria Thomen and Guadalupe Casasnovas. It is a series of 23 photographs that show the insertion of figures of inflatable animals made of plastic, in natural environments appropriate to the species they represent. The result is an ecotopy, that is, an absurd and fantastic ecological speculation: an unreal world, terribly similar to the planet Earth. The exhibition was part of the activities of the León Center for the celebration of the International Day of the Environment, held last June 5. With the auspices of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation and the Dominican National Brewery.
From January 19 to February 4 from 2018.
Exhibition resulting from the Continuing Education Program for Artists that, in turn, forms part of the actions derived from the Eduardo León Jimenes Art Contest to promote a space for exchange, debate and updating for visual artists beyond the realization of their own edition of the contest. The term pod in the Dominican Republic is used to name anything from a physical object to a positive or negative situation. Using different media, seven emerging Dominican artists navigate different issues, giving way to the ego, asking questions: who are we ?, what is real ?, the imaginary ?, the symbolic ?, and also recreating in each work a one-sided view of life. The artists who completed the Continuing Education Program for Artists were: Adrianny Almonte, Carolin Fernandez, Cristian Lora, Jonathan Carela, Juan Carlos Guzman, Lizette Nin and Rosaly Martinez.
