Iron comb to straighten the hair. This type of comb was heated in an oven and later passed through the hair. It has been a method widely used by women in African-American towns and rural areas, in the absence of chemicals to straighten hair or the high cost of existing ones.

Curious fact:

To avoid burning the hair, it is moistened or covered with petroleum jelly before passing the hot comb.
