The photograph presents the portrait of a mulatto man without a shirt, with his back to the observer and crouched, who cleans a piece of land from weeds. It belongs to the historical series of Wifredo García in which the artist intervened the works on the back with an interpretive text of a chapter of the Dominican historical event that is directly or indirectly related to the photographic image.

Curious fact:

On the back, a reflection of the author appears handwritten: "19. (1844-1861) The first independent years of the new nation were overshadowed by the alternation in the power of two leaders whose political appetites repeatedly tested the civic values ​​of the people Dominican (Peasant working the land, in the South) ".
